144 MHz Trophy Contest 2020

For the third year running, the weather was kind to most entrants this year with warm, dry weather on both days. However, rain late on Sunday did inconvenience some entrants. There were a few equipment problems and one station managed to operate with a short circuited cable.

Conditions were rated as `nothing special' by most entrants and deep QSB was encountered by many entrants.

This contest was restricted to single operator entries only (due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic) but this didn't stop the number of logs submitted rising for the fifth year running. There were 82 logs in 2015, 85 in 2016, 109 in 2017, 118 in 2018, 128 in 2019 and 178 logs (including 12 check logs) this year. Logs were received from five countries (F, G, GD, GM and GW).

The `nothing special' conditions produced the usual crop of DX contacts. There were 26 contacts over 800km of which 13 were over 900km and 3 exceeded 1000km. Three stations (G5RS/P, G8XVJ/P and M0BUL) made contacts over 1000km. The best contact by a UK&CD station was between G8XVJ/P and EB1RL at 1119km.

GM3S operated by Ian GM3SEK for winning the Six-hour Single Operator Fixed section for the second year running.
